“Filmmaker Bootcamp” is an intensive five day workshop program that can be run for up to 16 participants.
The Teachers Filmmaker Bootcamp is specifically designed for all school teachers and will be particularly appealing to Digital Media, Media Studies, Film Studies and English school teachers and educators.
Each group is given the challenge of making a short film that reflects on a particular theme.
The Media Resource Centre (MRC) supplies all film production equipment, computers and professional facilitators. The final films can be screened for family, friends and the general public at an open screening at the bootcamp’s end.
A dynamic learning and creative experience, the MRC’s Filmmaker Bootcamps have been developed to foster creativity in the process of filmmaking for the broader community, in what remains a rarefied, industrial process (for features theatrically released in cinemas) while increasingly becoming a do-it-yourself phenomena (e.g. YouTube). By ‘hot housing’ creative concepts, Filmmaker Bootcamps provide participants with a taste of the filmmaking process and the opportunity to complete a project that goes from idea to the ‘big’ screen all in a week!
Filmmaker Bootcamps often provide a framework and signature theme to the projects – this signature in past camps has ranged from “What Adelaide Means To Me” to “A Day in the Life”. The aim is for completed works to have a sustained life after the workshop as an educational resource within schools and communities.
SA filmmakers participate as mentors to guide the camp attendees through the process (from concept development to post) to deliver technically and artistically robust short films. These filmmakers have been selected because of their knowledge and communication skills and in part because of their commitment to working with community. All film production equipment is supplied, with a large subsidy discount, by the MRC.
A maximum of 5 participants form each filmmaking team. Each team receives an experienced industry mentor to guide them as well as the production equipment (eg cameras, sound gear, editing facilities) to realise their vision.
Working in groups generates teamwork and a connectedness among the participants. The camp encourages the continuation of creative endeavours after the workshop has finished.
The camp is held at the Media Resource Centre and Mercury Cinema, 13 Morphett Street, Adelaide, and is priced at $750 per participant for the 5 days.
